Seeing this is sci-fi, you could also probably have an enemy that is made of rock and this is the tool you'd use to defeat or maybe just incapacitate so you can kill him. Could also be used to take down enemy ships. Could make it interact with different materials. This rock melts, this one reflects, this one is unaffected, and possibly it can also be used to melt certain rock to collect the molten form of the material. Reall great ideas! I really like the concept of the beam interacting differently with different materials. Also the idea to actually melt the mineral/ore you are collecting. It would be cool if the density of the materials could play a part in some way.

I was the only one wearing a Cowboys Lady Sassy Classy And A Tad Badassy Shirt mask at work and I got made fun of by a customer. The next days after that I could feel the prying eyes on me. I bet if my coworkers wore masks no one would have batted an eye. I started wearing a mask and gloves early before anything was shut down, and I caught hell for it. Not long after that, you wouldn't even be let in the building without one on. In St Augustine, we have an older black man who, during Black Lives Matter 1.0, stood at the intersection of US1 and King Street (main thoroughfare that intersects/adjacent to a largely black neighborhood) with a sign like that. Alone. For days. He was clearly old enough to have lived when MLK marched here in 64 (and it was really, really brutal- the actual Klan, violence, shootings, etc- St Augustine Movement is a big part what inspired the passage of the Civil Rights act). Any construction underground is super ridiculous. I’m on an I’d Tell You A Joke About Object Oriented Design But It Has No Class Shirt project that ran into a lot of abandoned pipe and comm/power lines that were not recorded anywhere and it cost much more than what we anticipated to remove it to put in what we were building. Nobody was keeping accurate drawings of what was being placed or abandoned underground years ago Construction in NYC is also much more expensive than virtually anywhere else. Trying to dig underneath a 100% developed area in some of the most densely populated areas in the country while not cutting power or significantly disrupting the lives of millions of people is no small fear. That’s also why Boston’s Big Dig cost so much Why don’t those same problems apply to Paris or London or Tokyo?
