 Honestly, it makes it easier to break out of the mindset when you start having people in your life regularly who are different than you, an Nice Official Vote Fiji Shirt family member of mine recently married their Black spouse and meeting them a few years ago and spending time with them helped show me a little bit of the struggles they face, I have other family members/friends that have been in my life more the last few years that are LGBTQ and it’s the same with them. I am so thankful for the impact all the people in my life have made in showing me what it’s like in their shoes. Grew up in the middle of nowhere conservative town. Took what my parents and others said as fact and adopted their political views. I never did my own research on politics. Since then I’ve met amazing people who’ve helped me see things from a different perspective. Now I see the issues with what I believed before. Happy to say that I do much more research and don’t just go in the voting booth blind. I’m now pretty far from conservative It's just polite racism.

I was the only one wearing a Cowboys Lady Sassy Classy And A Tad Badassy Shirt mask at work and I got made fun of by a customer. The next days after that I could feel the prying eyes on me. I bet if my coworkers wore masks no one would have batted an eye. I started wearing a mask and gloves early before anything was shut down, and I caught hell for it. Not long after that, you wouldn't even be let in the building without one on. In St Augustine, we have an older black man who, during Black Lives Matter 1.0, stood at the intersection of US1 and King Street (main thoroughfare that intersects/adjacent to a largely black neighborhood) with a sign like that. Alone. For days. He was clearly old enough to have lived when MLK marched here in 64 (and it was really, really brutal- the actual Klan, violence, shootings, etc- St Augustine Movement is a big part what inspired the passage of the Civil Rights act). Any construction underground is super ridiculous. I’m on an I’d Tell You A Joke About Object Oriented Design But It Has No Class Shirt project that ran into a lot of abandoned pipe and comm/power lines that were not recorded anywhere and it cost much more than what we anticipated to remove it to put in what we were building. Nobody was keeping accurate drawings of what was being placed or abandoned underground years ago Construction in NYC is also much more expensive than virtually anywhere else. Trying to dig underneath a 100% developed area in some of the most densely populated areas in the country while not cutting power or significantly disrupting the lives of millions of people is no small fear. That’s also why Boston’s Big Dig cost so much Why don’t those same problems apply to Paris or London or Tokyo?
