He was clearly old enough to have lived when MLK marched here in 64 (and it was really, really brutal- the actual Klan, violence, shootings, etc- St Augustine Movement is a big part what inspired the passage of the Civil Rights act). Nobody was keeping accurate drawings of what was being placed or abandoned underground years ago Construction in NYC is also much more expensive than virtually anywhere else. Trying to dig underneath a 100% developed area in some of the most densely populated areas in the country while not cutting power or significantly disrupting the lives of millions of people is no small fear.
